Restoring Foundations,
Rebuilding Generations.
Meet Priscilla Joan
Consultant & Therapist
Family is the foundation of society. I believe that.
Born and raised in a family that had its own share of struggles and challenges, affected me profoundly. The heaviness felt from depression was a daily battle which exacerbated during my undergraduate studies in the US. During that time, I had taken a course in psychology which not only sparked my interest in the field but had shed light about my inner struggles. Years later through my own journey of counseling and recovery, I discovered how vital it is to be secure in our identity and build healthy relationships. With this new found insight, I set out on becoming a therapist.
After graduating, I moved back home and had quickly transitioned into being wife and mother after meeting my husband. Marriage provided opportunities for me to put into practice in my marriage my own counsel. It became my pursuit in life to keep it real and practice what I preached.
Learning from the struggles in marriage, I developed a relationship program with my husband, that would help many couples find reconciliation in their own relationship. It was exciting. The partnership, closeness and connection built over 20 years with my husband not only transformed me as an individual but had strengthened my relationship with my teen daughter and son.
Dubai eventually became our new home. Living and working within an expat community for over a decade, revealed the depths of loneliness and challenges that many expats and families faced.
How do I parent my third culture kid? Can my marriage be saved after an affair? How do I balance work and family? These were some of the consistent questions asked. This set me on a path of relentless study and research which led me to pursuing my Masters in Marriage & Family Therapy from the US which fulfilled the goal of becoming a therapist.
Shortly after, Esther Project was birthed out of a vision to restore relationships and see individuals, families and marriages thrive. Even though couple therapy can be one of the hardest form of therapy to practice, yet it is the most rewarding. Working with multicultural individuals and couples in an expatriate community like the UAE has been an eye opener. We may be different and complex individuals, yet invariably we all yearn for understanding from our partners and desire our deepest needs to be acknowledged.
Relationships are dynamic and requires a keen grasp of its intricacies. It is my endeavour to guide clients to confront their relational struggles, uncover their true sense of being and rediscover purpose. This is a process, one that I am committed to. Having personally experienced being unshackled from the bondage of my past, I am eager to journey with others in pursuing their own breakthroughs and experience freedom from inner conflict and pain.
Seeing the faces of family members rejoice when they relationships shift from conflict towards reconciliation, or the resilience that individuals develop after discovering hope to move forward from a divorce, miscarriage or pain in their lives has given me tremendous hope and encouragement. I am a believer that what was deemed impossible, is attainable with clear understanding and skilled counsel. This is exciting as it drives me to constantly challenge and grow in my capacity as a therapist.
Thank you for stopping by and reading my story. I would love to hear from you.
